Holme Farm’s Crafty Christmas Fair

Holme Farm’s Crafty Christmas Fair: A Windy but Wonderful Success

Holme Farm’s Crafty Christmas Fair was held Sunday, bringing festive cheer despite the blustery weather. The event raised over £3,000 to support Holme Farm’s essential operations, with every penny going toward keeping this cherished community hub thriving.

Preparations for the fair began as early as May, with Holme Farm’s dedicated supporters pouring their time and creativity into crafting a wide array of gifts. Many of the items sold were lovingly made during the Wednesday Craft Workshops led by the talented Dawn Hill, with help from Pascale Eeckelers, and of course Christine Kendall, whose leadership and enthusiasm were instrumental in the fair’s success.

Festive Highlights

The baked goods stand was a favourite once again, featuring festive cakes, cookies, and other seasonal treats, all homemade by volunteers. A new addition to this year’s fair was the animals and pets stall, which offered an array of dog and cat treats, pet toys, and animal-themed gifts.

When asked about her motivation for helping oversee the event, Dawn shared that her love of crafting drives her passion for volunteering. This communal spirit of creativity was reflected in other popular offerings, such as the handknit fingerless gloves, wooden penguins (all sold out!), and Annie Moore’s homemade jams – a staple of Holme Farm events.

Annie contributed over 20 different types of jam for this year’s event including plum jam made from plums grown at Holme Farm, as well as marmalade, and chutney. In addition, she knitted the Hedrick owl, which was raffled off, all while managing the weekly operations of the community allotments.

Neil and Jeremy run the woodturning workshops where many of the Crafty Fair’s beautiful Christmas ornaments and decorations were produced. The wooden gonks – as predicted – were a big hit.

A Community Effort with a Purpose

The success of the Crafty Christmas Fair highlights the power of community collaboration. Every item sold was handmade or donated by Holme Farm’s volunteers and supporters, with their efforts exemplifying a shared commitment to the farm’s mission. Beyond fundraising, Holme Farm continues to promote mental and physical health, neurodiversity, learning opportunities, and biodiversity.

Although the fair was a fantastic achievement, there’s still work to be done to sustain Holme Farm’s goals. New supporters are always needed, especially in administrative roles. Anyone interested in contributing some of their spare time to this vibrant community space is encouraged to visit the Vacancies page for more information. Holme Farm welcomes everyone, regardless of skill level, to join in and make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who braved the wind to make the Crafty Christmas Fair a day to remember. Together, we’ve shown how much can be accomplished when a community comes together.
