Runnymede Civic Awards Honour Holme Farm’s Unsung Heroes

The Runnymede Borough Council Civic Awards celebrate those who dedicate their time to making a difference in their community. This year, four exceptional Holme Farm volunteers—Matthew and Thomas Lane, Megan Grummett, and Annie Moore—were recognised for their outstanding contributions, showcasing the power of dedication and teamwork in fostering a thriving community space.

Environmental Champions: Matthew, Thomas, and Megan

Holme Farm’s Sunday biodiversity group has been instrumental in conservation efforts, bringing together volunteers to protect and enhance the local environment. Over the past year, they have planted orchards, hedgerows, and wildflowers, built a pond, restored riverbanks, and removed invasive species. Duke of Edinburgh students, Matthew, Thomas, and Megan have stepped up as mentors, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for new volunteers. Their leadership and commitment earned them the Young Volunteer of the Year award, a testament to their hard work and passion for sustainability.

A Community Pillar: Annie Moore

For over two years, Annie Moore has been the heart of Holme Farm’s community allotment, dedicating five days a week to tending the land and guiding fellow volunteers. Through her expertise and generosity, she has cultivated more than just crops—she has built a space where people come together, learn new skills, and experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening. Beyond the allotment, Annie has played a vital role in fundraising, with her homemade jams and crafts becoming a beloved staple at Holme Farm’s seasonal events. Her tireless efforts were recognised with a high commendation, coming in second for the Volunteer of the Year category, a well-earned accolade for her invaluable contributions.

Celebrating Community Spirit

The dedication of Holme Farm’s volunteers highlights the incredible impact of grassroots efforts in strengthening communities. Their achievements serve as an inspiration, reminding us that positive change begins with individuals willing to give their time and energy to a cause greater than themselves. As we celebrate their successes, we also acknowledge the many others who work behind the scenes, shaping the future of our communities one act of kindness at a time.
